About the Atlantic Eye Research Foundation
The Atlantic Eye Research Foundation was founded by our renowned ophthalmologists with decades of experience and a shared commitment to academics, research, and philanthropy. Through their clinical work and academic involvement, our members have identified a pressing need to promote quality research in the field of ophthalmology, with a focus on eye conditions which have a high impact on quality of life in the context of South Africans.
Our mission is to harness the collective knowledge, skills, and expertise of our members to support education and training in the field of ophthalmology and eye health. By nurturing the next generation of eye care professionals and advancing cutting-edge research, we aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of countless individuals.
We also recognise that clinical research and training alone are not enough. To truly transform eye health in South Africa, we are equally committed to addressing service delivery of eye care for eye conditions in South Africa. This includes identifying barriers to access, facilitating dialogue between governmental institutions and health professionals, and developing actionable agreements to improve systems of care.
In addition to these efforts, the Foundation seeks to leverage our private sector networks and practices to generate revenue. These funds are directed toward financing research projects and offering pro bono eye care services to underserved communities.
